Meet the Founder
Dane Thomas, PA-C, MMS
Dane Thomas is a nationally recognized Hematology/Oncology Physician Associate with over 15 years of experience in radiation oncology, medical oncology, and hematology. He currently practices at Texas Oncology, caring for patients across the full cancer continuum—from diagnosis through survivorship and advanced care planning.
Dane is also a leader and educator in the oncology community. He serves on the Advanced Practitioner Society for Hematology and Oncology (APSHO) Professional Development and Leadership Committee, contributes to national workforce initiatives focused on reducing burnout, and mentors early-career PAs and NPs. He is a faculty speaker for ThriveAP’s Hematology/Oncology onboarding program and a frequent lecturer at national and state conferences on topics such as anemia management, breast cancer advances, cytopenias, survivorship, and end-of-life care. He also serves as a peer reviewer for multiple clinical journals.
In 2024, Dane was named America’s Top Hematology/Oncology PA in recognition of excellence in patient care, peer education, and professional leadership. In 2026, Dane was named touchHEMATOLOGY's Future Leaders, recognizing the rising stars shaping the future of malignant and non-malignant blood-related disorders .
Why This Work Is Personal
Dane’s mother-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021, and he had the privilege of guiding her through treatment. Having a knowledgeable advocate at every step transformed her experience. Years earlier, his own mother died from metastatic breast cancer at age 46, at a time when his family had no roadmap, no preparation, and no understanding of what to expect.
Those two experiences—one with guidance and one without—shaped his life’s work. Valsa HemeOnc Partners was created so that no patient has to face cancer without clear information, steady support, and a trusted expert by their side.
Meet the Inspiration
Valsa HemeOnc Partners is named in honor of my mother, Valsamma ("Valsa") Thomas, whose life and career continue to inspire everything this organization stands for.
For more than 20 years, Valsa served as a registered nurse with unwavering compassion, dedication, and kindness. She believed that caring for patients extended far beyond administering treatments or medications—it meant listening, comforting, advocating, and providing a healing presence during life's most difficult moments. She had a remarkable ability to make every patient feel seen, valued, and cared for, leaving a lasting impact on countless individuals and families.
In 2002, our family experienced firsthand the devastating reality of cancer when Valsa was diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer at the young age of 46. Just one month after her diagnosis, she passed away in July 2002. The speed of her illness forever changed Dane's family and revealed how overwhelming a cancer diagnosis can be—not only for the patient, but also for those who love them.
Her journey became the driving force behind Dane's own career in oncology and, ultimately, the creation of Valsa HemeOnc Partners. Through this practice, Dane strives to carry forward her legacy by providing patients and families with the education, guidance, advocacy, and compassionate support they deserve throughout their cancer journey.
Every patient interaction is an opportunity to honor Valsa's memory by treating people with empathy, dignity, and respect. Her legacy reminds us that while medicine treats disease, compassion helps heal the person. It is this philosophy that continues to guide Valsa HemeOnc Partners every day.
